Having fun in recovery: TROSA residents win softball championship

TROSA residents win softball championship

Congratulations to our TROSA residents’ winning softball championship team and to all our residents and staff having fun in recovery! Throughout the season, resident teams played each other. Our winning resident team then played against our TROSA staff team under the lights of Duke’s softball field. Residents and staff gathered to watch the championship game, which included ballpark-style food and snacks provided by TROSA’s Food Service team.

Though the TROSA staff team put in a great effort, they were no match for the multiple home runs, quick feet, and expert strategy displayed by our winning TROSA residents, who won 24 – 0!

Our winning team’s captain and coach was TROSA senior resident Carol Ann.

“It was a great and fun experience being with all the other residents,” shares Carol Ann. “We were very competitive and we played every Sunday for a couple of months.”

Carol Ann: Winning captain and coach

Carol Ann, captain and coach of winning TROSA resident softball team

TROSA senior resident Carol Ann was the captain and coach for this year’s winning resident team.

“I came to TROSA because I wanted my life back,” she shares. “I had lost my family and my sense of self. I knew I needed help regaining control…I needed to focus on getting ‘me’ back.”

With a focus on her long-term goals, Carol Ann regained her confidence and successfully applied to TROSA’s competitive Staff-in-Training Program.

“I’m finally being responsible and leading an independent lifestyle. I want to be an inspiration to others and offer hope by showing just how fun recovery truly is. It’s a beautiful thing.”
