Application Process
TROSA accepts substance abusers with one condition: they must have a strong desire to change their lives.
Applicants may come into the program by contacting us independently or through referrals from other professionals. In some cases we may ask that you get medical or psychological clearance before admission is final.
TROSA selects applicants to its 2 year program after a personal interview with an Intake Specialist. All applicants must be at least 18 years old. Applicants who are currently incarcerated must first submit a short autobiography with a request for TROSA's assistance. All interviews are performed by current TROSA residents, and the final decision is based on a joint decision with TROSA staff. Applicants who are not incarcerated may come directly to the TROSA office to seek an interview. Applicants who are currently in jail will be interviewed in person and those in prison will be interviewed over the phone.
Please note that the procedures are different for applicants who are incarcerated than for those who are not incarcerated.
If the applicant is incarcerated
- The applicant must write a 2-3 page autobiography and send it to TROSA, addressed to the Intake Specialist. In this autobiography the applicant must specifically ask for help from TROSA. It is often helpful for the applicant's attorney to contact the Intake Specialist as well.
- The Intake Specialist will read the applicant's letter and determine whether or not the applicant will be interviewed. TROSA representatives conduct interviews every Saturday, and the Intake Specialist will contact the applicant if an interview will be arranged.
- TROSA representatives will interview the applicant. At the end of the interview, the TROSA representatives will decide whether to accept the application. The applicant will be told immediately about the decision.
- The Monday after the Saturday interview, acceptance letters will be sent to the applicant or to the applicant's lawyers. Finally, the application also must be approved by the presiding Judge of the applicant's case.
If the applicant is not incarcerated
- The applicant must come to TROSA for a face-to-face interview. Interviews are done on a walk-in basis, Monday through Saturday, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The interview process typically lasts around an hour and a half. All applicants must arrange their own transportation to and from TROSA.
- TROSA representatives will interview the applicant. At the end of the interview, the TROSA representatives will make a decision about whether or not the applicant has been accepted into TROSA. The applicant will be told immediately about the decision.
- If the applicant has been accepted into TROSA and the applicant has no pending charges, the applicant can begin their residency at TROSA that very same day. However, if the applicant has pending charges, the charges must be resolved before the applicant can come into the TROSA program.
